At Pico Island on the Azores we got the following options available to either watch dolphins & whales in the open ocean or also to swim with free dolphins in their own environment. With these options it’s possible to arrange the vacation upon own schedule.

Dolphin contact (swim with dolphins) (see details)

Since 1998 the organizer offers special boat trips to snorkel with dolphins. We are looking for appropriate schools that allow eye contact under water. This program is also very suitable for children. The participants should be in good health condition as often a few trials are necessary and each time the boat has to be climbed.

Max. 5 snorkler per trip

Important notice: The use of diving equipment is prohibited, only ABC-equipment (snorkel & fins) are allowed. In respect of the animals it’s not allowed to touch them. It’s not allowed to swim and snorkel with whales.

Dolphin & whale watching (see details)

The boat trips to the sea mammals last about 3 hours. Please plan your day generously as the trips may last longer. Boat trips to the whales and dolphins can’t be executed upon a strict schedule as we are also dependent of the weather and also where we find the sea mammals. The pneumatic boats offer space for max 10 people. The departure-times are weather-dependent and will be announced the prior evening or in the morning. Since 1997 we did see whales and/or dolphins during 99% of our trips. Of course there’s no guarantee to see specific species as the ocean is no zoo. The crew and the observers on the island do their best to enable you for a unforgettable experience.

All boats are equipped according to highest security standards. Every guest receives a life vest prior departure. The crew consists of experienced skippers and boatmen that grew up in that area with the ocean.
