The Dominican Republic is located on the island Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles. The southern tip of florida is about 1,000 km away.
The Dominican Republic is a land of contrasts with towering mountains and rocky cliffs, rain forests, fertile valleys, cacti-studded deserts, 1,600 kilometers of coastline and about 300 kilometers of prime soft sand beaches.
It is situated between the Caribbean Sea in the south and the Atlantic Ocean in the north.

money The local money is the RD pesos. Most banks accept VISA/Mastercard and there over 700 ATMs to get cash. Some places will also accept US$. (note: rate might be worse than at banks)
languageThe native language in the Dominican Republic is Spanish. But english is usually understood as well. weather Due to it's situation in the warm climate in the Carribean the weather only varies a few degrees between summer and winter which makes it perfect place for vacation year-round. The average beach temperate is about 80-82°F / 26-27°C and the average coast temperate year-round is about 77-93°F /25-34°C with only mountain areas getting colder. Hurricans may occur anytime between June and Nov with the peak in August and September which are also the hottest months. |
